Modo is a compact lounge sofa that rethinks luxury through a holistic design approach. Using off-the-shelf timber sections, standard fixings, and a lightweight leather sling construction, it explores how quality furniture can become more adaptable, repairable, and attainable for contemporary living.

The investigation began with a study of simple intersecting geometries, seeking a structural language that could be rationalised for manufacture and assembly. Reducing complexity at every stage became the basis for a more democratic interpretation of "luxury".

Flexibility and adaptability are increasingly important to contemporary households, yet these qualities are rarely associated with luxury furniture. A modular ottoman enables Modo to evolve alongside changing lifestyles, encouraging investment in a product whose value lies not only in its craftsmanship, but in its ability to remain relevant over time. 



 

Rather than concealing its construction, Modo embraces a knock-down approach that prioritises longevity through repair, replacement, and disassembly. By using standard fixings and rationalised components, the design reduces manufacturing complexity and transport volume, demonstrating how thoughtful construction can lower overheads while broadening access to well-crafted furniture.
